There has been an ongoing debate within scientific cycles as to what is it about air pollution that damages the brain leading to cognitive decline. It is that air pollution damages the brain from limiting the amount of oxygen breathed in by the lungs or does air pollution itself damage the brain directly? A new study by German and Swiss scientists has suggested that it is latter namely poor quality air directly impairs the brain and is a potential cause…
A new US study has reported interesting findings about the potential association between childhood asthma and peanut allergies. The researchers based in Ohio, examined the medical records of 1,517 children admitted to a children’s hospital with asthma attacks. They found that 11 per cent had a documented peanut allergy and 44 per cent underwent testing for peanut antibodies with a fifth of those children testing positive for a peanut sensitivity. New research conducted at Harvard University in America has suggested there is a strong link between long term depression and an increased risk of stroke. With the higher risk unfortunately remaining even when the depression is successfully resolved. They found that depressed individuals at the first interview…
Researchers at the University of California have found worrying evidence that a baby’s long-term health can be severely affected by having an overweight mum. The study is the first in…

The team recruited 52 healthy people aged 21-41 years to eat either five or 10g of mushrooms daily and monitored changes to specific immune markers in their saliva and…

The General Medical Council (GMC) has changed its guidance to doctors to confirm that they can refer patients to practitioners on Accredited Registers. Complementary therapists registered with CNHC are all on CNHC’s Accredited Register so your doctor can refer you to a CNHC registered practitioner in your local area. This does not mean that treatments will be funded by the NHS but it does mean that you can ask your doctor to refer you to a named practitioner or choose…

It is generally recommended to take supplements of vitamin D in the winter months however there is mixed advice over toxicity levels leaving many people uncertain…
